Unfortunately there are times when a relationship just doesn’t work out. For whatever reason; an employee or even a vendor is just not a “good fit” within your company or organization. In these cases the end result is typically termination of the relationship. The staff member’s employment or the relationship with the vendor is ended. This may end up being very difficult and filled with emotion, or perhaps it will be a simple parting of the ways in which all concerned parties understand and accept the reason(s) for it.
A very important thing that your practice needs to keep in mind is that the terminated employee/vendor represents a security risk to your network, systems and data! If possible:
Please keep in mind, the security risk is not necessarily due to malicious intent on behalf of the separated staff member or vendor. It may result from something as simple as that person having written their credentials down on a piece of paper, then discarding it after separation (subsequently found and used by a totally unassociated entity to access your network.) It really is better to be safe than sorry! Edward Kopp / Partner / Phoenix Dental IT, L.L.C.
